Rising star Jelani Williams provides insight into what's going on in his life, as part of an ongoing journal series.

May 28, 2015 - If you haven't heard the name Jelani Williams, you will; A 2017 guard from Sidwell Friends (DC), Williams has hit the travel team circuit with Team Takeover (16u), along the way distinguishing himself as a guard that can play both backcourt positions.

Williams, standing around 6'5" and 180 pounds works hard in school - Sidwell is notoriously challenging academically - and accepts challenges on the floor, where he's coached by Eric Singletary, himself a Sidwell graduate and former hoops standout.

Said Singletary of Williams' work ethic and development, "He has a chance to be our next great player out of the program", following in the footsteps of Villanova standout Josh Hart. "He missed some significant time last season with a wrist injury but has developed nicely as a lead guard".

The coach went on to note Jelani "Has loads of potential" and is "Starting to figure out how hard you have to work improve".

Recruitment-wise Williams has been offered by Penn, and has received interest from Maryland, Harvard, Rice and Colgate.

This is the first installment of an ongoing series in which Williams shares what's happening in his life, hence the title 'Williams' World'. Enjoy, and expect them bi-weekly.

Part 1, written last week:

"The past couple weeks have been good both inside and outside of basketball. My high school team has started workouts and open gyms, and my travel team, Team Takeover has been practicing well together. With all the talent on our team, the majority of our summer has been trying to find how each player fits and how we can gel even more going into our last tournaments.

"This weekend, we will be leaving for our last Nike event in Georgia before we take a month off during high school's summer circuit.

"I'm really excited about what my high school team has an opportunity to look like this summer and next season. We have a lot of pieces that have played together and a lot of our guys are progressing pretty fast.

"Outside of basketball, school has been going pretty well. It's the last week of school before finals, so I'm really excited to finish strong and go into the summer with no restrictions".
