Howard Bison end season with a 'W'.

November 21, 2012 - The Howard Bison ended their season with a 41-34 win over Delaware State Saturday at Greene Stadium.

The Bison stormed back outscoring the Hornets 38-17 in the second half. Terrance Lefall rushed for 253 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bison comeback.

Howard quarterback Greg McGhee finished with 255 yards total offense. McGhee rushed for 76 yards and finished the afternoon 18-28-179 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnathan Franklin has huge in UCLA's Pac 10 Championship game birth securing win, over rival USC.

Florida State beat Maryland 41-14 before a crowd
of 35,246 at Byrd Stadium. The Seminoles led 27-0 at the half as they prepared for their upcoming top ten clash with Florida this weekend.

Maryland dropped to 4-7 on their injury riddled season. They travel to North Carolina Saturday.

Holy Cross blanked the Georgetown Hoyas 24-0. The Hoyas fell to 5-6.

Some other college scores of interest around the country featured. Auburn beating Alabama State 51-7 in a pay day game. South Carolina State defeated Savannah State 27-13. North Carolina A&T edged North Carolina Central 22-16 in overtime. Hampton defeated Morgan State 27-17. U.T. Martin beat Tennessee State 35-26. Jackson St. beat Alcorn State 37-11. Mississippi Valley beat Texas Southern 34-3. and Arkansas-Pine Bluff edged Prairie View
42-41.

I have joked about “divine intervention” in the past in regards to Notre Dame’s march to the BCS $ championship payday, but this week’s domino effect was historical with the number #1 and number #2 teams going down.

Oregon and their video game offense went into stall mode losing at home on senior day is as bad as it gets but Kansas State being pounded by Baylor a sub. 500 team? Explain that I know I can’t except for the fact is that is why they play the game.

Anyway here is my top ten:

Notre Dame (11-0) travels to Los Angeles to face a fragile USC team which has been a disappointment to their fan base and will start a back up quarterback against the Fighting Irish.

#2 The Buckeyes of Ohio State the remaining undefeated team in the BCS. Ohio State hosts Michigan in their season finale. Shame on the media for voting them 4th. State defeated Wisconsin 21-14 in overtime at Madison in a match up of the two best teams in the Big Ten? Ohio State improved to (11-0) on the season.

#3 Texas A&M defeated Sam Houston 47-28. The Aggies who defeated Alabama on the road will get my vote on head to head competition especially with their big road win. The Aggies are now (9-2) on the season. One extra loss doesn’t factor into my rankings if the Aggies are the hot team I think they are.

#4 Alabama setting in the cat bird seat since I don’t do the rankings. The Crimson Tide punished Western Carolina 49-0 and hosts Auburn Saturday. The War Eagles are having one of their worst seasons ever. Alabama (10-1) should breeze in this one.

#5 Stanford (9-2) held the Oregon Ducks video game offense to 14 points ! Another head to head competition being rewarded. The Cardinal (9-2) travel to Los Angeles to face UCLA in the premier game in town this week. We’ll see Stanford is the hot team
Saturday.

#6 Georgia (10-1) beat Georgia Southern 45-14 taking a beak from the brutal SEC. They’ll host state rival Georgia Tech Saturday.

#7 Florida (10-1) blanked Jacksonville State 23-0 but as I stated last week this is a fragile Gator team with quarterback issues. Jacoby Briskett will need to have the savvy of a veteran to defeat Florida State.

#8 Florida State (10-1) will forever this season suffer from their loss to North Carolina State. I know I said that last week but just watch if they beat Florida, how much they will move. I am picking the Seminoles to beat the Gators.

#9 LSU (9-2) the Tigers edged Mississippi 47-28 at home this past weekend. LSU travels to Arkansas Saturday.

#10 Kansas State (10-1) that’s what happens when you lose to a sub .500 team and I am being generous. tate will hosts Texas this Saturday.

Their are a couple of teams on the outside looking in; Saturday Clemson (10-1) host South Carolina (9-2).and UCLA (9-2) hosts Stanford.

It's four straight WCAC 'chips for Bob Milloy. Sportswriter Robert Stevens flanks him in aqua.

In high school football playoffs this past weekend:

Good Counsel captured their fourth consecutive WCAC football championship with a 26-14 win over DeMatha at the Naval Academy Saturday.

The Falcons’ Dorian O’Daniel rushed for 117 yards to lead the ground game against the Stags.Kendall Fuller caught three touchdown passes as the Falcons finished their season at 11-1. The Stags dropped to 9-3.

In high school playoffs in the state of Virginia:

Briar Woods (12-0) defeated Liberty 42-14. Oakton (8-4) edged Centreville 14-13. Hylton (9-2) defeated Battlefield 19-7. Stone Bridge (12-0) beat Langley 33-14. Loudoun County (10-2) beat Tuscarora 30-21.

The state of Maryland featured the following teams:

Quince Orchard (11-1) defeated Northwest 41-14. Urbana beat Seneca Valley 26-7. Westminster beat Sherwood 62-28. Douglass (11-1) beat Gwynn Park 28-6. Wise (12-0) beat Suitland 41-6.

In the DCIAA/ Charter school playoffs:

Kipp beat Perry St. Prep 12-0.

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of watching The Super Bowl Championship of the Rockville, Maryland Football League Championship between the Navy Bears and the Navy Raiders at Bullis School.

One of the parents, Hillary Clagett, whose son played in the league and has graduated from college said that the league has grown from about 250 to over 1,000 kids.

It was refreshing to see the football at its purist state
with parents, grandparents, guardians, sisters, brothers, and
friends of the family cheering for their loved ones. No cheerleaders were present! That’s real football. I know I’m in trouble but when I first learned how to play in the alleys of D.C. there were no cheerleaders.

The Navy Bears with a strong defense were the victors
this Saturday 13-0.

Head coach Andy Stefanelli was fired up after the win telling his kids “We accomplished our goal. We all put in hard work to get here.. It was a complete team effort.”

“We had a motto. A goal without a plan is just a wish.” said coach Stefanelli.

As we walked off the field to a sea of well wishers I mentioned to the coach that the team had pitched a shutout.

“All of my coaches put the work in but I do let Coach Flannery handle the defense; that’s my coordinator” he revealed.

The coach caught up to his team to receive their championship trophies from league President, Eric Heckman.

No cameras, no reporters, just happy family members with their digital cameras and big smiles.

I for one enjoyed every minute of it football at its purist state ! The lone reporter present.
