As usual, Stephens is on top of things.

October 4, 2012 - "I have been on the other side of that score in my career.” shouted senior linebacker Keith Pough. “It’s good to be on the winning end.”, as Howard’All-MEAC linebacker celebrated with his fraternity brothers of Omega Psi Phi after the Bison 56-9 blowout of Savannah St. Saturday at Greene Stadium.

Aquanius Freeman rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns as the Bison cruised to a 28-3 lead at the half. Quarterback Randy Liggins completed 9 of 13 passes for 85 yards. Liggins also ran for two touchdowns on the ground from 12 and 29 yards.

The Bison have a huge game this Saturday as they host the Rattlers of Florida A&M at Greene Stadium. The kickoff is set for 1pm.

The Bulldogs of Bowie State suffered a 35-3 defeat at the hands of nationally ranked Winston Salem State. The Hoyas of Georgetown fell to Brown 37-10. The Bears spoiled the Hoyas homecoming as the home team dropped to 3-2 on the season.

The Terrapins had the week off. In other college scores this past weekend:

South Carolina State blanked Norfolk St. 14-0. Bethune Cookman defeated Hampton 38-26. Southern beat Florida A&M 21-14. Jackson St. defeated Prairie View 34-13. Alabama St. beat Alcorn St. 54-14. Elizabeth City edged St Augustine 23-21 and Alabama A&M beat Grambling 38-17.

In our weekly top ten:

Alabama was behind for 15 seconds against Mississippi! The Crimson Tide rolled to a 33-14 win. West Virginia beat Baylor 70-63! No defense played in this one. Mountaineer quarterback Gino Smith threw for 656 yards and 8 touchdowns. West Virginia travels to Austin Saturday to face the Longhorns. This is an important game for the Mountaineers and their quest for national recognition.

Tennessee State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 40-13. The Tigers have eaten Florida A&M, Jackson St., and Bethune Cookman to remain as the number one HBCU team at 5-0. The Tigers remaining games are in the Ohio Valley conference.

LSU remained unbeaten defeating Towson St. 38-22. LSU will travel to Florida Saturday SEC blockbuster one of several marquee games this weekend. Trust me they must have been thinking about the Gators.

Georgia defeated Tenneessee 51-44 in a SEC offensive explosion. The Bulldogs travel to Columbia to face the undefeated Gamecocks and the “Ball Coach” Saturday.

My personal favorite the Miami Hurricane quietly getting it done at 4-1 as quarterback Stephen Morris threw for 566 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Hurricanes 44-37 win over N.C. State. The Hurricane’s have a chance to make a statement Saturday night in the windy city on network television (NBC).

Ohio State my personal favorite for the Big Ten’s best team? The Buckeyes can do what the USC Trojans did last year being the best team in their conference on probation not being allowed to play in the conference championship game. You know Robert you have a strange sense of humor.

Virginia Tech lack of quarterback depth has the Hokies reeling. Tech at 3-2 this year suffered another hard to swallow defeat losing to Cincinnati 27-24 at FedEx Field. Tech and the Hurricanes are bitter rivals so any time Tech goes down well you get the point. Tech always manages to lose the real big one when it counts.

What happened to UVA? The season started so promising as the Cavaliers have their share of quarterback problems. Louisiana Tech beat the Cavaliers 44-38 in Charlottesville Saturday. That’s not progress to say the least.

Penn State won again ! The Nittany Lions beat Illinois 35-7. State is now 3-2 and hosts ranked Northwestern Saturday. The Nittany Lions have now won three in a row.

In high school football:

Seneca Valley edged Quince Orchard 12-9 in a battle of undefeated teams in Montgomery County. Seneca’s defense had a goal line stand in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Seneca improved to 5-0 on the season. Quince Orchard dropped to 4-1. Briar Woods beat Tuscarora 35-6. Damascus edged Sherwood 23-20. Madison edged Langley 24-21.

H.D. Woodson beat Wilson 32-8. Westfield beat Fairfax 35-3. Springbrook edged Paint Branch 14-12. Suitland defeated CH Flowers 26-14. DeMatha beat O’Connell 41-10. DeMatha and Good Counsel play this Friday in Olney and the kick off is set for 7pm. Churchill beat Gaithersburg 13-6. DuVal beat Bowie 14-6. E. Roosevelt defeated Parkdale 47-12.

Forestville edged Crossland 12-8. Gonzaga stopped McNamara 24-17. St. John’s blanked Carroll 50-0. Friendship Collegiate beat Parkersburg South 60-10. Kipp blanked Cesar Chavez 21-0. Largo beat Friendly 36-26 and Riverdale Baptist beat Maret 20-13.
