Stephens runs down the gridiron scene.

September 16, 2014 - The Howard Bison took a 7 to nothing lead against Big-10 Rutgers in New Jersey Saturday however the Scarlet Knights proceeded to score 31 unanswered points in route to a 38-25 win over the MEAC visitors.

The Bison offense outgained Rutgers 437 yards to
397 but penalties 11 for 100 yards and three fumbles contributed to the Bison loss.

Howard rushed for 269 yards on the ground scoring
4 touchdowns but it was not enough to defeat the undefeated
Scarlet Knights.

Howard (0-2) will hosts Morehouse at RFK Stadium
Saturday.

Maryland defeated South Florida to remain undefeated
24-17. The Terps came from behind outscoring the home team in the 4th quarter.

UCLA's Brett Hundley makes the Bruins go.

Maryland will hosts West Virginia Saturday.

Georgetown fell to Dayton 23-14 while Bowie State lost
their opener to St. Anselm 23-20.

The second week of the $ college playoff system
featured the usual answers and questions in week two.
Some of the questions asked by this reporter.

The defending champion Florida State Seminoles
defeated the Citadel 37-17. In previous years the Seminoles would have put up large numbers against the visitors from South Carolina.

Have graduations and complacency set in?
Is USC back ? The Trojans took a huge step edging
Stanford on the road 13-10.

Are the Louisville Cardinals the team to beat in their
first year in the ACC ? The Cardinals after beating Miami destroyed Murray State 66-21. Louisville has another test this Saturday on the road at Mississippi.

How bad is Michigan ? The Wolverines were punished
by Notre Dame 31-0 on national television.

Are the undefeated North Carolina Tar Heels overrated? They struggled with San Diego State coming from behind in the 4th quarter to defeated the Aztecs 31-27.

Some answers discovered.

The Big-10 is not who we thought they were. Purdue lost to Central Michigan, Northwestern lost to Western Illinois, Penn State edged Akron to 3. Akron blasted Howard last week the Zips maybe underrated and Iowa edged Ball State 17-13. Michigan State considered by many to be the class of the league got punished by Oregon 46-27.

The MEAC had a tough week the only winner was
North Carolina Central over Elizabeth City 34-7.

In high school play Gonzaga traveled to Centreville
in what was the game of the week. The Eagles behind Reggie Corbin who rushed for 211 yards cruised bt their host 31-14.

Some other scores were St. Albans over Anacostia
12-0. Ballou blanked Phelps 42-0. Coolidge beat Perry Prep 36-28. Good Counsel over St. Francis 9-6 in overtime. Wilson beat DuVal 28-16. Westfield beat South Lakes 56-7. TC Williams beat Dunbar 28-19. and Cardozo blanked Southern 28-0.
