March 5, 2013 - The Bowie Bulldogs are the 2013 CIAA Champions defeating the Blue Bears of Livingstone College 85-74 at Time-Warner Cable Arena Saturday night.

The Bulldogs for the second consecutive night were underdogs to Livingston who finished their season with a record of 22-6.

Senior Byron Westmoreland saw to that personally as he poured in 38 points to pace the Bulldogs. The 6’4 Senior from Baltimore (Mergenthaler) was named the tournaments MVP.

Carlos Smith a 6’8 Jr. from Baltimore (Forest Park) chipped in with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Sr. Najee White added 10 points along with Sr. Bryan Wilson (Riverdale Baptist) 8 points and 6 rebounds, and Dameatric Scott 7 rebounds and 5 assist as Bowie State improved to 16-13 on the season.

“I am so proud of my team especially our seniors” said Bowie head coach Darryl Brooks.” “ They’ve worked hard.” We had a lot of adversity this year and all through it they stuck together and we got a great reward for it”, said coach Brooks at his post game news conference.

The Bulldogs will represent the CIAA in the Division II version of March Madness which a huge plus of the P.G. County school. The Bulldogs were in no position to receive a bid to the tournament but to the victors goes the opportunity.

Byron Westmoreland along with Dameatric Scott were voted to the all tournament team.

Derrick Washington (Coolidge) a Jr. at Lincoln was also named to the all tournament team.
