Going from no clock to starter, Hamilton can make impact.

November 20, 2013 - Generally when you play at two of the highest profile high school programs in the Washington-Baltimore area, you are not a sleeper. Such would be the case when in back to back years one attends DeMatha Catholic and St Francis Academy.

But that moniker does apply to Jared Hamilton. The question is how much longer will he classify as under the radar?

A Class of 2014 forward, Hamilton attended DeMatha last season after moving to Maryland from his North Carolina. He reportedly saw minutes early in the season, but didn't see much clock after that.

That's Jared Hamilton, pushing the rock last night.

At Baltimore's St. Frances this season, Hamilton has not only earned a starting role, he as such has been saddled with expectations by SFA's head coach Nick Myles. Is Jared ready for the challenge?

"I think he is" opined Myles via telephone last night, after his team's scrimmage at Duval. "He has a lot of athletic ability".

For the record, Hamilton has been charged with "Being one of our best defenders, bringing senior leadership" is what's expected of Jared, according to Myles. In terms of numbers, Myles has penciled him in for "10 to 12 points, six to seven rebounds, four to five assists" each time out.

While not garnering those stats against Duval - it was a scrimmage, with both teams juggling lineups and testing schemes - it was apparent Hamilton is very athletic, has a long wingspan, good size (6'4", 210 or so pounds) and can impact the game favorably in a number of ways. He must tighten his handle, but is a solid shooter who currently excels at slashing to the hole.

A projected swingman in college, Hamilton has received some interest from local recruiting stalwart Loyola, while Shepherd College has shown the most interest. Joining Loyola is Lehigh and Texas' Abilene Christian.

If Hamilton, who owns a 3.2 GPA can take over for Mo White, now a freshman at Siena - being the guy who gives SFA some of everything - that list will certainly grow. Myles, on whether Hamilton can fill such big shoes: "He's going to have to take over for Mo...Jared is one of our most versatile players. He's coming along, he's adjusting".

Recruiters may soon have to adjust their Baltimore swing, making sure to scout Jared Hamilton.
