Coverage of the i95Ballerz.com Summer League (i95BSL) semifinals.

August 6, 2014 - Lamond Recreation Center was <i>the place to be last night, with the i95Ballerz.com semifinal round of playoffs occuring. Fans from across the DMV traveled to see the games.

Following are game and player reports:

Potomac 58 Theodore Roosevelt 56

One of the summer's best games went to overtime, with Potomac (MD) downing Theodore Roosevelt. TR had an opportunity to end the game in regulation, but Anthony Whitney's nine foot runner rimmed in and out. He finished with 21 points.

The game was well coached and played; for example Potomac's initial change to a match up zone initially flummoxed TR, who then used dribble penetration to contract it, with the ball then landing in shooters hands. If those shots weren't made, offensive rebounds produced points.

Potomac's Jordan Hill, attempting to score on a fast break.

Potomac led at the half 28-26 after Anthony 'Rook' Smith's buzzer beating shot. He finished with 18 points, 16 in the first stanza.

If Smith buoyed Potomac in the first half, teammate Randall Broddie did so in the second, scoring 22 of his 26 point then. Broddie's work at the line (8-9) indicated his importance down the stretch, as he hit four of four free throw attempts in overtime, in addition to a bucket. For the record that was six of Potomac's eight overtime points.

Caron Green finished with seven points for Potomac, while TR received 13 points from Joseph Adedayo and Devonte Kay logged 11 points.

Sean Riley - 6'3", 175 pound junior wing, Teddy Roosevelt - A good spot up shooter with solid range, Riley is also athletic. Must become a better ball handler.

Capital Christian 48 National Collegiate Prep 39

Capital Christian led from beginning to end. Senior wing Kwame Camon led the victors with 17 points. Teammate, senior guard DeAndre McFadden added 15 points.

National Collegiate Prep battled throughout, though C.C. answered at every turn. For instance, NCP's Kenneth Ford scored a second half bucket, only to have Camon respond with an and-one. He missed the charity stripe attempt, but the rebound went to C.C.

Ford scored seven points for NCP.

Kenneth Ford - 6'3", 170 pound senior swingman, NCP - A good pull up shooter, Ford has range beyond three point land. Will also slash to the cup. Needs to get stronger, allowing better acceptance and giving of contact. Dribbles to escape and in the open floor. Must drive to pass.

Championship Note:

The i95Ballerz.com Summer League's final is set for 7p tonight, at Lamond Rec, 20 Tuckerman Street, NW, WDC. Potomac and Capital Christian will compete.

In terms of what to expect, Potomac has Randall Broddie on the outside, Anthony Smith and Caron Green inside, along with a number of talented roll players. They have to be considered the favorites.

Nate Watson, a sophomore, lead's C.C.'s inside charge, while the team must rely on Deandre McFadden to score buckets from the perimeter.

Potomac's match up zone will be challenging for C.C., who must work inside-out against it. Defensively, Potomac feasts on stops and resulting fast breaks, which must be curtailed. C.C. also has to make sure Broddie faces two players on drives and a defender in good run-out position on jumpers.

Should be a goodie.
