Taylor Abt's and-one seals it.
December 15, 2009 – Tonight Georgetown Prep (MD) travelled to Archbishop Carroll (DC), and prevailed on the road 51-49 via a late, inbound play layup with two seconds to go. Taking and making the shot was junior forward Taylor Abt (13 points), who benefited from a nifty screen the screener, inbound play, one that took a pair of seconds to execute, and used Carroll’s emphasis on senior guard Markel Starks to its disadvantage. Taylor, fouled on the play, also sank the awarded free throw. Starks, despite foul trouble scored 11 points – five in the fourth quarter after being reinserted after leaving in the third. “It was a tough one tonight” said the future Georgetown Hoya of his and his team’s performance. “I think for the most part, our young guys stepped up early, and we needed that”. Markel then went on to indicate “I was struggling a little bit from the field; I didn’t shoot it well at all”. The reason for Starks’ challenges, according to him: “It was more adrenaline than anything. It was more of a home game for me. There were a lot of guys who saw me grow up and kind of blossom, they were able to come out and watch me tonight”. Prep's senior guard, Thurgood Wynn, supplied 11 points. Leading the home standing Lions was senior forward Alex Weaver, who dropped 16 points, including several down the stretch. Junior guard Kenny Cherry supplied 10 points. To the chagrin of some bystanders, Carroll also applied man to man defense during the crucial inbounds play. The Lions, as well as Little Hoyas played a lot of zone throughout the contest. Carroll is now 4-3, while Prep stands 2-2 Following are several pictures taken.
