He's no longer simply a DelMarVa brand.
October 18, 2012 - Players in today’s day and age not only make a name for themselves locally, but imprint larger environs also. Gone are the days of local phenoms who are not broadly known. Anthony Mosley II epitomizes that. A Delaware native, Mosley, generally referred to as Champ, played for DC Assault this past travel team season. As a Class of 2014 student athlete, his participation on that organization’s 16u team has added to work done at Sanford HS (DE) – Champ is now a known entity. A brand so to speak. How known? Well, New England school, Boston University, has offered a scholarship. His response, according to his father, Mosley I, was “’ I’m going to keep working harder’”.
Champ Mosley, during a recent DC Assault workout. As a high school junior, he’s visited (unofficially) Stoneybrooke (NY), plus Pennsylvania’s Bucknell and Temple. Rider, located in New Jersey, along with New York’s Hofstra and Northwestern State, a Louisiana institution, have expressed interest. For those counting, that is schools in the Northeast and Deep South, recruiting a guy that hails from DelMarVa. He clearly is no longer simply a First State hoops standout. In terms of school criteria, Poppa Mosley indicated his son desires a good academic pedigree – at Sanford, Champ has a GPA of around “3.2”. There might also be another, as despite relative silence by his son on the issue, “I know he did say he doesn’t want cold weather”. On the court, Champ is a 6’0”, 160 pound combo guard has worked tirelessly at becoming a lead guard. Though he clearly likes to get his buckets – via driving or pulling up from distance – the young Mosley has made obvious strides in running a squad. Quick off the bounce, Champ should focus that athletic ability more on defending. He’s worked hard at becoming what’s necessary for collegiate success. In fact, Champ has never been one that’s shied away from doing what’s necessary to improve. Here’s a true anecdote, detailing that fact he’s not a Prima Dona: “There is no basketball gym where we live” stated Champ’s dad, when asked how his son developed. “I used to just take him to the park. He put in work out there”. Expect, as the old jazz heads would say, such ‘shedding’,
to continue. As will the collegiate interest.
