Capitol Hoops Fest standouts, Pt. 2

Ron Bailey, Publisher

Catholic University was jumping during Capitol Hoops competition.

April 7, 2016 - We have more selected players from last weekend's Elevate Hoops Capitol Hoop Fest. Click here for Part 1.

Kyle Copeland – 6’4”, 175 pound, Class of 2017 guard, Tuscarora (Va), The District 17u – Athletic and a good long distance shooter, Copeland gives a team options at the two guard position; not only does he sink shots and attack the rim, but at times resembles a possible defensive stopper.

To round out his skill set, Copeland must get stronger – to help on taking and giving bumps – as well as play aggressively on a consistent basis.

Mount St. Mary’s, High Point and St. Francis (PA) have all previously offered him a scholarship, while Bucknell, Princeton, JMU, Penn, Northeastern, Vermont, Boston U, George Mason, American and Bryant have all shown various levels of interest.

A post-grad year at Phillips Exeter (NH) is also an option.

Kyle Copeland, letting one go.

Fred Mulbauh – 5’9”, 170 pound Class of 2018 guard, Northeast HS (PA), B’More United 16u – A strong driver, Mulbauh gets to the rim regularly, where he uses quickness and a level of strength to finish.

Must become a better shooter for college. Is more of a set up lead guard. Changing speeds will help his floor generalship.

Fred Mulbauh is electric.

Randy Miller – 6’2”, 175 pound Class of 2016 guard, Mt. St. Joes (MD), B’More United 17u Red – A previous Delaware commit, Miller is on the market again, as that staff was let go. Quinnipiac, St. Francis, Tulsa, Mount St. Mary’s and others are now starting to pursue him.

What they see is a tough, aggressive player who loves to drive right, challenge players and scrap. He’s gritty but also can put the ball in the cup. Finishes over and through foes. Dropped 31 points during one game.

Needs to become a better outside shooter and work on his left hand.

Randy Miller takes it to the rack.

Christian DePollar – 6’4”, 170 pound, Class of 2019 forward, St. Stephens/St. Agnes (VA), DC Blue Devils 15u – A silky smooth left handed shooter, DePollar sinks jumpers from range. He’s tracking to be one of the DMV’s best shooters by his junior year.

Has been working on his ball handling and shot creation. Must continue the process, including going right.

Colleges at multiple levels are monitoring him.

Christian DePollar is one to track.

Devin Smith – 5’10”, 160 pound Class of 2016 guard, Newtown (MD), B’More United 17u Red – According to him Florida A&M has offered, while Grambling and others are showing interest. He’s one of the best sleepers in Baltimore this year.

A back to back state champ at Newtown, Smith drives and competes. Must become more of a point guard, and shoot more consistiently from the outside.

Devin Smith is certainly a college-level player.

Marvin Price – 6’4”, 210 pound Class of 2019 forward, DeMatha (MD), DC Blue Devils 15u – On the freshman age level, Price is capable of overpowering foes on offense and defense. In Capitol Hoops Fest work he did just that, proving himself a virtually unstoppable force, almost singlehandedly taking over games and producing wins. Price was a beast on both sides of the floor.

Price is very left hand dominant, as such must become better dribbling with this right. Will can open spot ups, but going forward needs to work on separation moves against bigger opponents.

Marvin Price can play both sides of the ball.
