Second Team
Alex Jackson – 6’5” F, Baltimore Select, Post Grad – Jackson, headed to prep school this year has received offers from S. Alabama and Appalachian State, while interest is being supplied by ODU, Penn State, Western Carolina, NJIT and others. A rugged, athletic player, Jackson needs to improve his perimeter skills, making him a candidate for higher rungs of the college basketball ladder.
Collin Beatty is a sleeper no longer. Wallace Judge – 6’8”, F, DC Assault Gold, Sr. – If not for DCA Gold departing prematurely, and the depth at his position generally, Judge, known for improving as tournament’s advance, could have been a first teamer. Regardless of his listing, Kansas State is getting a player capable of posting, shooting the mid range jumper out to three point land, blocking shots, rebounding, and running the floor. If Judge should concentrate on anything, it is letting the game come to him – which to his credit he seemingly has – as Wally has a tendency of trying to show his entire offensive skill set too frequently. Marquel Starks – 6’2”, G, DC Blue Devils, Jr. – Starks is a scoring point guard specializing in hitting spot up jumpers in addition to executing drive and kick scenarios. The lightening quick Starks is being recruited by Big East, ACC, and A-10 squads. Must work on his stop and pop shots, as well as remaining focused during adversity – both of which should come with time. Andre Mattison – 6’6” F, Kingman, Sr. – Often overshadowed by others in terms of hype, Mattison is a smart, grinder – somebody that just makes game winning plays. As such, he was crucial to Kingman’s 17 Super Silver Bracket title. Andre must work on his shot from mid-range and one-two dribble moves, but will be a scholarship athlete somewhere. It could be the Ivy League, as last year Harvard showed interest.
Winning seems to follow Andre Mattison. Collin Beatty – 6’5”, F, Prymetime, Sr. – An athletic slasher that will get out on the break, Beatty is an emerging talent who has received interest from Rutgers, Auburn, Lehigh, UMBC, along with DII and DIII schools. Collin must continue improving his jumpshot and handle, as those offensive skills hold the key to what level of college ball he will play. Jamal Olasewere – 6’5” F/G, Washington Shock, Senior – Another player who must continue improving his perimeter game, Olasewere is known for his athleticism and competitive spirit; the guy backs down from no one. Given his youth relative to his classification, Jamal could possibly attend prep school, creating more opportunities to hone is perimeter skills. Nevertheless, he is presently receiving interest from Boston University, S. Alabama, Siena, Radford and others, while Villanova has inquired.
